Initial Settings
After you have connected the RBI-1 to the controller and
connected your controller to your computer with the
programming cable, start the programming software and open
your repeater data file. From the top menu, pick “Repeater”
then “GenData (DHE RBI-1) Setup”, you will open a window
like the one on the right.
This window is used to adjust the power on reset values of the
RBI-1. First, make sure you select the proper port mode. You
can then go through each item, setting values that fit your
application. If you plan to build user commands that turn the
RBI-1 on and off, make sure that the “Power On”, “Receiver
On” and “Transmitter On” are not checked.
Once you have finished setting up this window, pick the “Send”
button to send these changes to the controller. After the send
data is complete, you should notice the Kenwood radio being
updated to the new values.
After you have setup the RBI-1, you will need to setup the
auxiliary port. Pick “Repeater” then “Auxiliary Setup”, you will
open a window like the one below. From the “Auxiliary Output
Mode” select “1-COS” or “3-COS and Aux CTCSS”. This will define the condition that audio is sent to the RBI-1. Make sure
that no inputs are checked, as you will want to build
some user commands to control the inputs.
Once you have finished setting up this window, pick
the “Send” button to send these changes to the
controller.
Operation
To quickly verify operation of the RBI-1, you can
check the “Power On”, “Receiver On” and
“Transmitter On” from the DHE RBI-1 Setup
window, send the data. Then from the Auxiliary
Setup, check “Input #2” and send the data. You
should be able to transmit and receive from the
attached Kenwood radio. If you appear to have a
problem, you can review the troubleshooting tips from the DHE RBI-1 Manual. You may also want to confirm that all the
signals on the interface cable are working. Once you have the radio working, do the following audio adjustments. Do not
forget to restore the “Power On”, “Receiver On”, “Transmitter On” and “Auxiliary Input #2” to the Off condition.
Adjustments
If you are using the RI-310 (VXR-5000 ACC), no adjustments are required on the controller. After you have enabled the
RBI-1 TX and RX mode, you will need to follow the DHE RBI-1 Manual on adjusting the levels at the RBI-1.
However, if you are using the RI-300, you will need to adjust the TX and RX audio level. You can start by setting VR1 and
VR2 on the RBI-3 to mid level. After you have enabled the RBI-1 TX and RX mode, you will need to follow the DHE RBI-1
Manual on adjusting the levels at the RBI-1.
