INSTALLING THE REMOTE BASE INTERFACE (RBI-3)
The RBI-3 cannot be installed into the RI-310 as some of its features are already included on the RI-310. The Remote Base
Interface board adds various features to the RI-300 controller. For additional details, see the schematic in section 17. These
features include:
• 1 non-repeating audio port (input and output) with level adjustments.
• 7 digital inputs (5V logic). These bits are accessed via S-Command 45, bits 09 through 15
• 7 digital outputs (Open collector). These bits are accessed via S-Command 46, bits 10 through 16.
• 2 8-bit DAC outputs (0-5V). These DAC outputs are accessed via S-Command 13.
• 1 PLL serial data channel. S-Command 91 and 92 are used to set up this PLL channel.
• 1 Analog input (S-Meter). See section 4, “Analog Input (Pin5)” for more information.
To install your Remote Base Interface board (RBI-3), use the following steps.
1. Turn off power to the repeater and controller.
2. When working on your controller, use procedures to assure no static discharge occurs through the controller or Audio
Delay board.
3. Remove the cover of the RI-300 then remove the radio interface connector mounting studs and 2 screws that hold the
analog board to the chassis.
4. The analog circuit board is the board that has a small transformer. Just behind the radio interface connector, you will find a
black 26-pin socket header. Plug the RBI-3 into this header, making sure all pins align. The DB-25 connector on the RBI-
3 should align in the same direction as the radio interface connector.
5. Carefully re-inspect your installation, making sure that you have all pins correctly aligned.
6. Re-install the analog board and RBI-3 into the chassis, installing the 4 mounting studs on the 2 connectors.
7. You are now ready to use your RBI-3.
RBI-3 Jumpers
On the RBI-3 you will notice 5 jumpers labeled JP301 to JP305. The following details the function of these jumpers.
JP301 - PLL Clock Polarity:
This jumper controls the polarity of the Clock signal. Installing this jumper to the left provides a positive polarity
signal. This position is used for most applications.
JP302 - PLL Latch Enable Polarity:
This jumper controls the polarity of the Latch Enable signal. Installing this jumper to the left provides a positive
polarity signal. This position is used for most applications.
JP303 - PLL Clock Select Enable
Installing this jumper enables the ECK signal to be turned on and off by the serial chip select (SCS) signal. Install this
jumper for most all applications.
JP304 - PLL Latch Enable Select Enable
Installing this jumper enables the ECK signal to control the latch enable signal. Install this jumper for most all
applications.
JP305 - Bit-16 Output / DAC-2 Select
Due to the lack of pins on the DB-25 connector, bit-16 output and DAC-2 output are shared on pin 13 of the
connector. Use JP305 to select which of these outputs are routed to pin 13.
