SECTION 8 OPERATION
Once you have connected your controller to a receiver / transmitter and adjusted the audio, you should then confirm its basic
repeater operation. This can be done by transmitting a carrier in the input of the repeater and observing the “COS” LED
turning on and off when you key and un-key. You should next see the “PTT” LED turn on while the repeater transmitter is on.
Next, you can confirm the repeater audio path by listening to your self on the output of the repeater. Finally, if you transmit a
carrier with a 100Hz CTCSS tone on the input of the repeater, you should see the “RPT-TSQ” LED go on and some other
LED’s flashing. The flashing LEDs will be described later in this section.
SYSTEM STATUS INDICATORS
The system status LED indicators will display the current status of the controller. S-Command 09 is provided to enable or
disable (turn on or off) all status LEDs. Turning off the display will lower the current drain of the controller and may be
important in a solar powered or portable repeater configuration. With the status LEDs turned off, the controller will draw less
than 140 ma. During the controller power on
self-test, the RI-300 will turn on all of the status
LEDs for about 1 second.
The status display also acts as a receive-level
audiometer. When you press and hold the “INIT”
button after the power is on, the display will show
receive deviation. Each LED shows 300Hz of
deviation. When the LEDs labeled “SYSTEM”
through the “AUX” are on, the input deviation is 1.5
KHz. When all LED’s are on and the “RING” LED
just comes on, the input deviation is 3.0 KHz.
INDICATOR DESCRIPTION / FUNCTION
SYSTEM Shows when power is connected, the system is enabled (S-Command 01) and no activity on the receiver.
This LED will also flash at a rate of 4 times a second when the controller is decoding an enabled
S-Command CTCSS TONE or DCS CODE.
COS Carrier Operated Switch; indicates when a signal is present at the receiver.
RPT-TS Repeater Tone Squelch indicates when a CTCSS (Continuous Tone Controlled Squelch System) or DCS
(Digital Coded Squelch) has been enabled in the repeater tone panel and is present at the receiver.
DTMF Dual Tone Multi-Frequency; indicates when the controller is decoding DTMF (Touch-Tones). This LED will
also flash at a rate of 4 times a second when the controller is decoding an enabled User Command CTCSS
TONE or DCS CODE.
AUX Shows when there is activity coming from the AUX link port. This LED will also flash at a rate of 4 times a
second when the controller is decoding an enabled Auxiliary CTCSS TONE or DCS CODE.
PTT Push-To-Talk; indicates when the controller is keying the repeater transmitter.
UN LOCK This LED indicates when the controller is unlocked (programming mode). This LED will flash when the
Vertex VXR-5000 PLL is out of lock.
DIAL CLICK Shows when a DIAL CLICK command is in the detect process. Once the dial click timer has expired, this
LED will flash at a rate of 4 times a second when the controller is decoding an enabled dial click CTCSS
TONE or DCS CODE.
HOOK Shows when the telephone is off-hook or a telephone call is in progress. This LED will also flash at a rate of
4 times a second when the controller is decoding an enabled Telephone CTCSS TONE or DCS CODE.
RING The controller has detected an incoming ring signal from the telephone line.
