High-speed switch fabric modules
Gen-2 high-speed fabric (HSF) modules support wire-speed forwarding for all packet sizes,
including jumbo frames.
NOTE
Gen-1 switch fabric modules and Gen-2 HSF module are not compatible and will not operate
together in the same device.
HSF modules are supported on Brocade MLX Series and Brocade NetIron XMR routers, and are
interoperable with all existing interface modules.
HSF modules are hot-swappable, which means you can install or replace them while the system is
powered up and running.
NOTE
Hot-swapping or installing high-speed switch fabric modules one-at-a-time may affect the
performance of 2x100GbE interface modules. If you have 2x100GbE modules in your device, it is
recommended that you bring your system down and install all required high-speed switch fabric
modules before you bring the system back up.
HSF modules can operate in normal mode or turbo mode but will boot in turbo mode only if all
active interface modules are Gen-2 modules. For a list of Gen-1 and Gen-2 modules, refer to
Table 3.
