The ULTRA may be configured incorrectly for a serial or parallel
printer (the default is parallel). Select serial output by setting dip
switch A1 in the ON (down) position, then press the RESET button.
Select parallel output by setting all Bank A dip switches in the OFF
(up) position, then press the RESET button.
If using a serial printer, make sure that the settings of ULTRA dip
switches A3 and A4 match the printer interface settings for parity
and that dip switches A5, A6 and A7 match the printer interface
settings for baud rate. The RESET button must be pressed for the
changes to take effect.
If the printer is connected via parallel interfacing, the CHECK Status
Indicator Light on the ULTRA front panel will be on if there is a
hardware error on the parallel port. This usually indicates a problem
with the printer, such as a paper jam.
Confirm that the printer is functioning properly by having it perform
a self test. Refer to the printer users manual for instructions.
If the report prints garbage:
The ULTRA may be incorrectly configured for ASCII or EBCDIC
(the default is ASCII). This setting is determined by configuration
Option #10. Refer to Section 5  Configuration Options for infor-
mation on changing the settings of configuration options.
General Configuration Report
This report will print out a list of all of the ULTRA configuration options,
including programmable function strings, along with their current settings
and the current firmware version number. This report is useful for finding
the causes of various printing and formatting problems. This test should
also be printed before and after changing any configuration options.
To print the report, press the TEST button on the front panel of the ULTRA
when the unit is in normal operating mode. A sample report with all default
values selected is included in the Appendix.
Coax Host Verification
After successfully completing a General Configuration Report, verify the
host connection to the ULTRA by sending a Local Copy or a typical host-
generated print transaction to the printer (one or two pages). Refer to the
system documentation for instructions. Verify that the transaction is
properly formatted and output by the printer.
