Initial Setup of HyperTerminal
This section shows the steps to setup use the HyperTerminal program. Other
terminal emulation programs operate in a similar fashion.
Step 1. Connect the null modem cable (and the 9- to 25-pin adapter if
applicable) from the computer serial (COM) port to the SNC 5100
Service Port.
Step 2. Turn on the service terminal.
Step 3. On the service terminal, select the HyperTerminal icon and
double-click on it.
Step 4. In the New Connection dialog enter SNC5100 for the name and
click OK.
Step 5. In the Connect To dialog, for the Connect using field select the
COM Port number that you have chosen and click OK.
Step 6. In the COM Properties dialog select the following:
Bits per second:19200
Data bits:8
Parity:None
Stop bits:1
Flow Control: Hardware or Xon/Xoff
Step 7. Click OK.
Verifying the Connection
If the SNC 5100 is already on, then characters typed in the terminal should be
visible to the operator. The simplest test is to press the Enter key. The SNC
5100 responds by displaying a command prompt:

When the SNC 5100 is rebooting, several messages are displayed on the
service terminal. A successful boot is indicated by the last message: “Done
executing startup script”.
