Youcanmounttheswitchinacabinetthatcontainsa19-in.
rackasdefined in Cabinets,Racks, Panels,and Associated
Equipment (documentnumber EIA-310–D)published by
theElectronicsIndustryAssociation(http://www.eia.org).
NOTE: The rackmust meetthe strength requirements to
support the weightof the switch.

Theminimum cabinetsize must be ableto accommodate
the maximumexternaldimensions of the switch.

Theouteredgesofthemountingbracketsextendthewidth
of the chassisto19 in. (48.3cm).
•
Theminimum totalclearanceinside the cabinet is 30 in.
(76.2cm)betweentheinsideofthefrontdoorandtheinside
of the reardoor.
Cabinetclearance
Whenyou mount the switchin a cabinet,ensure that
ventilationthrough the cabinetis sufficient toprevent
overheating.
•
Ensureadequate coolair supply todissipate the thermal
output of the switch or switches.
•
Ensurethat the cabinetallows the chassishot exhaustair
toexit the cabinetwithout recirculatingintothe switch.An
opencabinet(without a topordoors) thatemployshot air
exhaustextractionfrom the topallowsthe bestairflow
throughthe chassis.If the cabinet containsa topor doors,
perforationsintheseelementsassistwithremovingthehot
air exhaust.
•
Installtheswitchinthecabinetinawaythatmaximizesthe
open spaceon the side of the chassisthathas the hot air
exhaust.Thismaximizes the clearance forcritical airflow.
•
Route and dressall cables tominimize the blockageof
airflow toand from the chassis.
•
Ensurethatthespacingofrailsandadjacentcabinetsallows
forthe proper clearance around the switch and cabinet.
•
Acabinetlargerthantheminimumrequiredprovidesbetter
airflow and reduces the chanceof overheating.
