Ink Cartridge Problems
If output quality does not improve even after cleaning and
aligning the print heads, you may need to replace one or both
of the ink cartridges.
To replace an ink cartridge before the
or
Ink Out
light is
flashing or is on, follow these steps.

Caution:
Once you remove an ink cartridge, it becomes unusable and
cannot be reinstalled even if ink remains.
1. Make sure the printer is on.
2. Open the printer cover.
3. Hold down the
Alt
button for more than three seconds until
the print heads moves slightly to the left, which is the ink
cartridge replacement position. The
Pause
light flashes.

Caution:
Do not move the print heads by hand. Always press the
Alt
button to move them; otherwise you may damage the
printer.
Note:
The printer automatically moves the print heads back to their
home (far right) position after 60 seconds if you have not started
the procedure.
4. Complete the ink cartridge replacement procedure as
described from step 4 of “Replacing an Ink Cartridge” on
page 9-2.
