Feature History for PPPoE over Ethernet
Restrictions for PPPoE over Ethernet
The PPPoE over Ethernet feature has the following restriction:
The Cisco 10000 series router currently supports the PPPoE over Ethernet feature on Gigabit
Ethernet line cards and Fast Ethernet 8-port half-height line cards. The Fast Ethernet port of the
performance routing engine (PRE) does not support the PPPoE over Ethernet feature.
Note The Cisco 10000 series router supports a Fast Ethernet interface for management traffic only.

Configuring a Virtual Template Interface
Configure a virtual template before you configure PPPoE on an Ethernet interface. The virtual template
interface is a logical entity that is applied dynamically as needed to an incoming PPP session request.

“Configuring a Virtual Template Interface” section on
page 3-17.
