The toner cartridge is worn out.
If the toner smears appear on the leading edge of the media, the
media guides are dirty.
The media is too smooth.
The toner cartridge needs to be replaced.
The printer needs to be cleaned.
The fuser temperature is too low.*

The toner cartridge is dirty, defective, or not seated properly.
The priority input tray is not in place.
The fuser entrance guide is dirty.
The fuser assembly is dirty or defective.
The fuser is scratched.
The fuser film is worn.
Set the fuser to a lower temperature mode.*
Replace the fuser.
Use the repetitive defect ruler to determine the defective
component.
The printer needs to be cleaned.

There is ink, glue, white-out, or some other substance on the
contact image sensor.
Slick media caused trouble during scanning.
