Symptom FRU or Action
The number of serial ports
identified by the operating
system is less than the number
of serial ports installed.
1. Verify the following items:
a. Each port is assigned a unique address by the
configuration/setup utility program and none of the serial
ports is disabled.
b. The serial port adapter, if you installed one, is seated
properly.
2. Check for failing serial port adapter.
A serial device does not work.

the serial port, see the “Serial
Port Connector” section on
page 1-13.
1. Verify the following items:
a. The device is compatible with the WAE.
b. The serial port is enabled and is assigned a unique address.
c. The device is connected to the correct port (see the
“Input/Output Ports and Connectors” section on page 1-11).
2. Check for a failing serial device.
3. Check the serial adapter, if installed.
4. Check the system board.
