CHECKING THE SPARK PLUGS
The following procedure applies to all of the
spark plugs.
1. Disconnect:
Sspark plug cap
2. Remove:
Sspark plug
Before removing the spark plugs, blow away
any dirt accumulated in the spark plug wells
with compressed air to prevent it from fal-
ling into the cylinders.
3. Check:
Sspark plug type
Incorrect ! Change.
Spark plug type (manufacturer)
DPR8EA-9 (NGK)
X24EPR-U9 (DENSO)
4. Check
Selectrode
1
Damage/wear ! Replace the spark plug.
Sinsulator
2
Abnormal color ! Replace the spark plug.
Normal color is a medium-to-light tan color.
5. Clean:
Sspark plug
(with a spark plug cleaner or wire brush)
6. Measure:
Sspark plug gap
a
(with a wire gauge)
Out of specification ! Regap.
Spark plug gap
0.8 X 0.9 mm
7. Install:
Sspark plug
Spark plug
18 Nm (1.8 mSkg)
Before installing the spark plug clean the spark
plug and gasket surface.
8. Connect:
Sspark plug cap

CHECKING THE IGNITION TIMING
Prior to checking the ignition timing, check the
wiring connections of the entire ignition system.
Make sure that all connections are tight and free
of corrosion.
