GuidelinesSiteWiring Factor
Ifyour siteexperiencesanyof the followingproblems,consult
expertsin electrical surge suppressionand shielding:
Improperlyinstalledwirescauseradiofrequencyinterference
(RFI).
Damage from lightning strikes occurswhen wiresexceed
recommended distances or passbetweenbuildings.
Electromagneticpulses(EMPs) causedby lightning
damages unshieldedconductors and electronic devices.
Signaling limitations
Toreduceoreliminateradiofrequencyinterference(RFI)from
yoursite wiring, do the following:
Usetwisted-paircablewithagooddistributionofgrounding
conductors.
If youmust exceedthe recommendeddistances,use a
high-qualitytwisted-paircablewith one ground conductor
foreachdatasignal when applicable.
Radiofrequencyinterference
If yoursite is susceptible toproblemswith electromagnetic
compatibility (EMC), particularlyfrom lightning or radio
transmitters,seek expert advice.
Someof the problemscausedby strongsourcesof
electromagneticinterference(EMI) are:
Destructionof the signal driversand receivers in the switch
Electricalhazards asa result of powersurges conducted
over the lines intothe equipment
