Setting Up an Audio Recording Device or Computer
Recording
It is best if you plan ahead when you initiate the basic setup of the scanner if you
i nclude the components to record incomi ng reception. You need an audi o
recording device which can be controlled by a Voice Operated module (VOX)
either externally or from wi thin the unit and the correct connecting cable.
The REC ( record) jack on the rear apron provi des a constant-level audio output
which is not affected by the setting of the volume contr ol. Use a mo no or stereo
cable that ends in a 3.5m m pl ug for the scanner. The recor der m ight have i ts own
requirements as to the proper plug. Check the r ecorder’s instr uctions to be sure.
Connect the cable to an exter nal or internal VOX control so that the recor der
operates w hen audio is pr esent.
You can also connect the cable to the appropriate i nput jack on your PC so that
with con trolling sof twar e, you can re cord to your har d di sc.
In or der for the function to operate, you must set the channel to record. You m ust
a lso set the system’s re cord op t io n t o e ither All Channel, which will record all
channels r egardless of any channel ’s setting, or Marked Channel whic h only lets
recording occu r if you have selecte d record for t ha t channel. Which you choose
will depend o n various fac tors.
Vehicle Installation
You can mount your scanner in your vehicle, using either the supplied bracket or
the optional DIN-E sleeve.
Mounting Using the Bracket
W ith th e bracket r emoved fro m the rad io , use the holes in the bracket as a
temp late to in itia lly ma rk th e lo catio n you pla n to use i n your vehicle . Be absolutely
certain of what might be behind the mounting surface befor e making any holes, be
it abo ve, or bel ow, or in front o f yo ur dash, ar m re st con sol e, or other location. If yo u
dri ll carelessly, expensive damage can result. If in doubt, consult your vehicle
dealer’s service department or a qualified professional installer.
