The followi ng section deals with the general settings of the scanner.
Setting and Using the Display Backlight
Press F. f appears on the display. Repeatedl y press [VOL] to reach your
desire d leve l fr om Off, Low, M ed iu m, and Hig h .
Setting the Dimmer
If you connect the vehicle power cabl e’s orange wire to a wire or connection point
i n y our c ar that changes state w hen you turn on the headl ights, the scanner c an
automatica lly dim the display when you turn on the he adlig hts. If you ha ve not
connected the orange wire, set Di mmer to Manual and manually select the
dimmer level. If you have connected the orange wi re, set Di mmer to Auto, then
select “+ Polarity” if the orange wire gets 12V when you turn on the headlights or to
“- Polari ty” i f the or ange w ire i s switched to c hassi s ground w hen y ou tur n on the
headlights.

Auto — Use t his setting if yo u h ave con nected the scanner to your vehicle ’s
headlights using the orange wi re. If you select this option, the scanner
automatica lly dims the backlig ht whe n yo u turn o n the he ad ligh ts. After selecting
this option, select:
+ Polarity — If the headlight wire i s c onnected to +12V w hen the headl ights
are on pick this setting.
- Polarity — If the headlight wire is connected to vehicle ground when the
headlights are on, pick this setting.
Manual — Use this se tti ng to man u ally se t the d imme r le vel to High, Middle,
Low, or Off. To guide you in yo ur se le ction, at each sett in g the displa y sh ows what
you can expect t o see.
