The BearTracker Scanning Icons
When you select a state and one or m ore of the agencies, each enabled service’s
icon is dis play ed on the lower part of the LCD (P L, DT, HP, BT). When t hey a re
disabled, the icon disappears fr om the display.
When the s canner detects a signal in an enabled ser vi ce, the i con blinks.
The scanner sca ns all the ch an nels of the BearTracker system. Alert Channels a re
al so s canned al ong wi th any progr am m ed Pri or ity Channel s.
Using the BearTracker Warning System
The BearTr acker Warning S yst em is a spe cia l part of the B earTracke r System.
Wh en y ou pr ess [HP/B], the scan ne r is set to aler t you to tra n smissio ns of close
by services. The BT display icon begins to blink. The BearTr acker LED li ghts, and
you hear a menu selected Alert Tone.
Most hi ghway patrol vehicles on the road today are equipped w ith a secondary
radio system kno wn as ‘mob ile e xt ender’ or ‘vehicular rep eater. ’ Whenever the
dispatcher transm its to any vehicle in the district, ‘mobile extender’ in every car
within the district is activated.

frequencies for y our s tate ( see “Setting the BearTracker Options” on Page 61 for
information af f ectin g all Be arTracker Warn ing system opt io ns) to set how many
frequencies t he scanner che cks during e ach cycle ). The B earTracker Warning
Sy ste m fre quen c ies i n clude s fr eq uenc i es us e d b y ‘ m obi le exte nder ’ ra di os as wel l
as by c ar-t o-c ar, airc raft-to-car, and other special -purpose frequencies. You
receive an audible (beep tone) and visual (flashi ng Alert light) alert whenever you
are within an approxi mate three-mile radius of Highway Patrol/State Police units
using a mobi l e extender unit.
