SQL Server and Sybase have parameters that can be set to limit the amount
of memory used by these products. Thus, upgrading memory but not
changing these parameters might not produce the desired performance
increase.
8.6 Hard Disk Bottlenecks
Hard disk bottlenecks are difficult to measure, but careful examination of the
results from Performance Monitor and TME 10 NetFinity can aid in this process.
Note
By default, disk performance monitoring is not enabled by the operating
system. Enable it by issuing the command
DISKPERF -Y and rebooting the
server. This monitoring will consume extra resources and should be turned
off once your testing is complete. Disable monitoring with the command
DISKPERF -N.
8.6.1.1 Using TME 10 NetFinity
This section describes the use of TME 10 NetFinity′s System Monitor to monitor
disk performance.

System Monitor, as shown in Figure 118 is useful for gaining a feel for the
workload that each drive experiences. You will notice that each logical drive
presented to the operating system will have a separate monitor.
