IBM SG24-4763-00 Server User Manual

This soft copy for use by IBM employees only.
Keep token-ring devices to less than 70 per ring.
Employ switching to segment your network or use the IBM Quad PeerMaster
Ethernet adapter. Avoid using the server to achieve this.
Keep your protocol mix simple (least is better).
The IPX protocol is, in most circumstances, slower than both NetBEUI or
TCP/IP.
Change the binding order to use your default protocol more efficiently.
Standardize as much as possible. Products from some manufacturers will
react slightly differently from the expected in a mixed environment.
Check for cabling faults, which is most frequently the cause of network
slowdowns.
