Object: Physical Disk
Counter: Disk Bytes/sec
A Disk Bytes/sec count lower than 20,000 may indicate that an application is
accessing a disk inefficiently.
Note
Be careful when analyzing this data. The excessive swapping to disk caused
by the lack of memory may give the false impression that the server has a
hard disk bottleneck, when the counters measuring the disks indicate that
they are over used.
8.7 Network Components Bottleneck
The components that should be investigated that affect the network functionality
are described in this section.
Using the Performance Monitor, check the following:
Object: Redirector
Counter: Current commands
If this number is greater than one per network adapter, the redirector may be a
bottleneck in the system for one or more of the following reasons:
•
The server the redirector is communicating with is slower than the
redirector.
•
The network may be experiencing capacity problems.
•
The redirector is busier than the adapter can keep up with.
If network capacity problems are identified, it may be necessary to subnet the
network in an attempt to partition network traffic.
Using the Performance Monitor, check:
Object: Redirector
Counter: Network Errors/sec
If any network errors are logged, check the Event Log for more details.
Using the Performance Monitor, check:
Object: Redirector
Counter: Reads Denies/sec
and
Object: Redirector
Counter: Write Denies/sec
These high values may indicate if the remote servers are having problems with
memory allocation.
Using the Performance Monitor, check:
Object: Server
Counter: Work Item Shortage
