How do I install the English Microsoft Windows 98 Dial-Up Networking 1.4
update onto a non-English Windows 98 version?
Note: Before you follow the instructions of this tip, please read“Installing the
Dial-Up Networking 1.4 Update for Windows 98” on page 19 .
The screen shots in this tip are taken from a German Windows 98
installation. They are provided for demonstration purposes only. The
dialog boxes and menus may look different in your language version of
Windows 98.
1. Launch the appropriate Microsoft Dial-Up Networking 1.4 Update program,
e. g. dun14-98de.exe for Windows 98 First Edition in German or dun14-
SEde.exe for Windows 98 Second Edition in German.
2. Click on Yes to accept the installation of this upgrade. Click on Yes in order
to accept the EULA.
3. When the installation program prompts you that it encountered a different
language version or a code page conflict of an already existing file you MUST
click on No in order to replace the file. Follow the onscreen instructions in
order to complete the installation.
Note: If you do not click on "No" when you see this message the installion of
the Dial-Up Networking 1.4 Update fails.
This may lead to a Windows system that either becomes instable or you
cannot use the dial-up networking any more. Further more you may
not be able to uninstall and reinstall the Dial-Up Networking update!
4. When the installtaion is complete, you will see a new entry on your Start Up
menu called Accessories. This contains all necessary programs for your dial-
up networking.
