Global Configuration Mode
Global Configuration commands apply to features that affect the system as a
whole, rather than just a specific interface. The Privileged EXEC mode
command configure is used to enter the Global Configuration mode.

The following are the Global Configuration modes:
•
SNMP v3 Host Configuration
— Configures the parameters for the
SNMP v3 server host.
•
SNMP Community Configuration
— Configures the parameters for the
SNMP server community.
Preconfiguration
Nearly all switch features support a preconfiguration capability, even when
the feature is not enabled or the required hardware is not present.
Preconfigured capabilities become active only when enabled (typically via an
admin mode control) or when the required hardware is present (or both). For
example, a port can be preconfigured with both trunk and access mode
information. The trunk mode information is applied only when the port is
placed into trunk mode and the access mode information is only applied
when the port is placed into access mode. Likewise, OSPF routing can be
configured in the switch without being enabled on any port.
Interface and Other Specific Configuration Modes
Interface configuration modes are used to modify specific interface
operations. The following are the Interface Configuration and other specific
configuration modes:
•
MST
— The Global Configuration mode command spanning-tree mst
configuration is used to enter into the Multiple Spanning Tree
configuration mode.
•
Line Interface
— Contains commands to configure the management
connections. These include commands such as line speed and time-out
settings. The Global Configuration mode command
line
is used to enter
the Line Interface mode.
