format
Purpose To format the storage media accessory
Syntax
format <drive> [FAT16] [fast | full | full_with_MBR] {<label_name
8>}
Description This command is used to format the storage media accessory.
Parameters <drive> – Specify the drive of the storage media accessory to be
formatted.
FAT16 – The type of file allocation table to be used to format the
storage media accessory.
[fast | full | full_with_mbr] – Choose the type of formatting to be done.
• Fast - Denotes formatting just the file architecture of the storage
media accessory. This will not clear the data sectors.
• full - Denotes a full format. This option will clear all sectors in a
partition except the Master Boot Record.
• full_with_MBR – Denotes that a full format will occur and all
sectors of the card will be cleared, including the Master Boot
Record.
<label_name 8> – Enter a previously set name associated with this
storage media accessory.
Restrictions Only administrator-level users can issue this command.
Example usage:
To fast format the storage media accessory:
DGS-3324SRi:4#format c: FAT16 fast
