Replacing the Drum Cartridge
5-26
Routine Maintenance
5
Never attempt to disassemble or modify the cartridge.
If a cartridge is brought to an environment where the temperature differs extremely,
condensation may occur both inside and on the outside of the cartridge. If you are going
to install a cartridge that was stored in a cold place in a warm room, leave the cartridge
stored in the protective bag for over two hours in the warm room so that it can adapt to
the ambient temperature.
Be sure to use a new cartridge within the expiration date indicated on the package.
Using a genuine Canon drum cartridge is recommended.
Storing a Drum Cartridge
Be careful of the following points for storing new cartridges or those that were
removed for maintenance.
IMPORTANT
Do not remove a new drum cartridge from the protective bag until it is ready to be used.
If a drum cartridge has to be removed from the printer for maintenance, place it in the
protective bag that it came in or wrap it with a thick cloth immediately.
Do not store a cartridge in a place exposed to direct sunlight.
Do not store a cartridge in a hot or humid place, or a place where the temperature and
humidity can change signicantly.
Storing temperature range: 0 to 35
°
C (32 to 95
°
F)
Storing humidity range: 35 to 85 % RH (no condensation)
Do not store a cartridge in a place that can generate corrosive gases such as ammonia,
a place in which a considerable amount of salt is contained in the air, or a place with a lot
of dust.
Store the cartridge out of the reach of small children.
Condensation
Even within the storable humidity range, water drops may develop both inside and on the
outside of the cartridge due to the difference in temperature. The development of water
drops is called condensation. Condensation will adversely affect the quality of the
cartridge.
