Troubleshooting
Fax Problems
Symptom Cause and Solution
The machine is not
working, there is no
display and the buttons
are not working.
Unplug the power cord and plug it in again.
Check for power at the outlet.
No dial tone. Check that the phone line is connected properly.
Check the phone wall jack by plugging in
another phone.
The numbers stored in the
memory do not dial
correctly.
Make sure the telephone numbers are stored
correctly in the memory.
Print a Phonebook list. See page 3.63.
The document does not
feed into the WorkCentre
Pro 580.
Make sure the document is not wrinkled or
creased and you are feeding it correctly. Ensure
the document meets specifications. See
“Specifications” on page A.2.
Make sure that the front cover is firmly closed.
You cannot receive faxes
automatically.
Ensure that either FAX, ANS/FAX or AUTO mode
is selected.
Ensure there is paper in the machine.
Check if the display shows “MEMORY FULL.” If
so, wait until memory clears.
Your machine cannot
receive faxes manually.
Ensure you press the Start/Enter button
before you hang up the handset.
Your machine will not
transmit.
Make sure that the document is loaded face
down.
Check that the LCD display shows “TX.”
Ensure the other machine to which you are
sending is able to receive your fax.
You cannot poll another
machine.
The fax machine you are polling may be using a
poll code.
The other machine is not setup for transmit
polling.
