TCP/IP Configuration
Overview
This chapter provides an overview of TCP/IP configuration. For detailed printer
configuration instructions, refer to Chapter 7, “TCP/IP Printer Configuration (All
Platforms)”; for host configuration instructions, refer to the chapter for your
environment:
Chapter 8, “TCP/IP Host Configuration (UNIX)”

PhaserShare Series B Ethernet and Token Ring interfaces support the following
capabilities:
Print jobs. The interface can accept print jobs sent via AppSocket, ftp,
telnet, lpr, or lp with lpr extensions.
Printer status. The interface can report printer status through the
following protocols:
lpq/lpc (lpc for UNIX BSD systems only).
Syslog (UNIX systems only). This protocol functions like a remote
printer front panel for reporting printer status.
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol; UNIX systems only).
The printer’s interface responds to status queries from host-resident
SNMP utilities.
AppSocket. This protocol allows a direct, socket-level connection to
the printer.
HTTP (HyperText Transport Protocol). This protocol allows
communication with the printer via PhaserLink Printer Management
Software.
