Table 39: Rack Requirements and Specifications for an EX8208 Switch
GuidelinesRack Requirement
Use a four-post rackor a two-postrack. Youcan mount the switchon any four-post
or two-post rackthat provides bracket holes or holepatterns spacedat1 U (1.75
in./4.44cm) incrementsand thatmeetsthesizeand strengthrequirementsspecified
in this table.
A U is the standardrackunit defined in Cabinets, Racks,Panels, and Associated
Equipment (documentnumber EIA-310–D)published by the ElectronicsIndustry
Association (http://www.eia.org).
Youcan stackthreeEX8208 switchesin afour-postrackthat hasatleast42 U; ifyou
installthe optional powercordtray,a minimum of 45 U arerequired. Youcanstack
threeEX8208 switchesin a two-postrackthathas 45 U (installingthe powercord
trayismandatoryfortwo-postrackinstallations).Inallcases,therackmustmeetthe
strengthrequirementstosupport the weight.

spacing
•
Ensurethat the rack is a 19-in. rackas definedin Cabinets,Racks,Panels, and
AssociatedEquipment(documentnumberEIA-310–D)publishedbytheElectronics
Industry Association (http://www.eia.org).
•
Ensurethat the rack is one of the following standard lengths:
•
23.62in. (600mm)
•
30.0 in. (762mm)
•
21.5 in. (546 mm)
•
Ensurethat the rack railsare spacedwidelyenough toaccommodatethe EX8208
switch chassis'externaldimensions of 24.25in. (61.6cm) height, 17.25in. (43.815
cm)width,20in.(50.8cm)depth.Theouteredgesofthefront-mountingbrackets
extend the width to19 in. (48.3 cm).
•
TheEX8208 switchchassis heightof 24.25in. (61.6cm) is approximately 14 U.If
youinstallthepowercordtray(optionalforfour-postrackinstallations,mandatory
fortwo-postrackinstallations), the chassisand powercordtrayconsume 15 U.
•
Therackmustbestrongenoughtosupporttheweightofthefullyconfiguredswitch.
A fullyconfigured EX8208 switchweighsup to 284 lb (130 kg). Ifyou stackthree
fullyconfigured EX8208 switches in one rack, that rackmust support up to852 lb
(487 kg).
•
Ensurethat the spacingof railsand adjacentracksallows forthe proper clearance
aroundtheswitchandrackasspecifiedin“ClearanceRequirementsforAirflowand
Hardware Maintenance foran EX8208 Switch” on page101.
Racksize and strength
•
Secure the racktothe building structure.
•
If earthquakes area possibility in yourgeographical area, securethe rack tothe
