Chapter 3

Note This includes the 4.03C version of Pylon Conduit.
If you are running an earlier version of Pylon software, including any
version of Pylon Conduit, Pylon Pro, or Pylon Application Server, do
the following:
■ Sync your device a final time to back up your data.
■ Uninstall the old version from both your desktop and your device.
See “Uninstalling Pylon” (page 52)
Uninstall Pocket PC first if switching to a Palm device
If you are switching from a Pocket PC OS device to a Palm OS device at
the same time that you are upgrading your Pylon installation, be sure to
uninstall the software supporting the Pocket PC OS device first. Then
install the software for your new Palm OS device before upgrading
Pylon.
Uninstall or disable other PIM conduits
Installing Pylon will allow you to sync Lotus Notes custom databases
(Pylon Pro only) plus your Mail, Calendar, Address Book, To Do, Memo
Pad (Palm OS only), Expense (Palm OS only), or some combination of
those six Lotus Notes applications.
If you are currently using another piece of software to sync one or more
of those PIM applications, you should uninstall the software or disable
the software from syncing those applications that you have chosen to
sync with Pylon.
Make sure Domino Server is not running on the same
machine
This release of Pylon does not support running a Lotus Notes
(Domino) server and a Lotus Notes client on the same machine.
Establish a partnership with ActiveSync (Pocket PC only)
You must have established at least one partnership with a mobile device
in ActiveSync before installing Pylon for Pocket PC OS. Establishing a
partnership means using ActiveSync to allow your desktop computer to
recognize your device. Only after establishing a partnership will you be
able to sync your device with your computer. If you have been syncing
your device with your desktop, you have been using ActiveSync and have
established a partnership.
Tip If you need instructions on how to establish a partnership with
ActiveSync, see Microsoft's documentation. With ActiveSync open, click
Help|Microsoft ActiveSync Help.
Establishing a partnership with ActiveSync is the final step in the
“Before you install” section. You are now ready to move on to “Installing
Pylon” (page 39).
