Chapter 8. FlashCopy ordering and activation 67
You can also reactivate a deactivated licensed function by changing the license value to a
non-zero value. A new feature activation code will be generated and when you install it into
the machine, the function will be activated. Reactivation is a nondisruptive activity.
When you deactivate a licensed function using the DSFA application, the 5xxx feature
numbers assigned to your machine (using the order confirmation code) remain assigned to
the machine. This means that you do not need to repurchase your 5xxx feature numbers if
you want to reactivate the licensed function at a future date.
8.2.2 Activation
Activation refers to the client retrieval and installation of the feature activation code into the
1750 system.
The feature activation code is made available by IBM and obtained using the DSFA
application at:
http://www.ibm.com/storage/dsfa
The following information is needed for the download of the keyfile and should be prepared
during planning:
Model
The model of the DS6000 can be taken from the order.
Serial number of the DS6000
The serial number of a DS6000 can be taken from the front of the base frame (lower right
corner). If several servers have been delivered, this is the only way to obtain the serial
number of a DS6000 located in a specific point in the computer center.
Machine signature
The machine signature can only be obtained with the DS SM or the DS CLI after
installation of the DS6000. In a Web browser, type the URL of the DS SMC:
https://10.10.10.10:8452/DS6000
Select Real-time manager Monitor system Properties. Select General, then the
Storage Complex and the Storage Unit that you are interested in from the list. This shows
the properties of the selected DS6000, including the machine signature.
Order confirmation code
The order confirmation code is printed in the DS6000 series order confirmation code
document, which is sent to the client’s contact person either with the DS6000 or before
delivery.
Note: To access DSFA, you will be required to enter information about your 1750 machine.
You can find this information on the Storage Unit General Properties page in the DS6000
series Storage Manager application.
