226 GL-1020 Operator’s Guide (Basic)
Raw Print Job A print job that is sent to the controller by means other than the
GL-1020 printer driver. For example, using DOS commands to
print directly to the local port, or using a different type of driver,
such as a HP driver, to print to a GL-1020 controller.
Recoverable error An error condition that simply requires user intervention to
resolve, for example, paper out or paper jam.
Remote operations Operations affecting the controller’s or digital copier’s functionality
that are performed from a client or administrator workstation.
RIP Raster Image Processor. A device that reads the text and
graphics in a document and outputs a bit-mapped image to a
printer. The acronym is used frequently as a verb, as in “The
controller is ripping the print job.”
Saddle stitch A binding method in which a booklet is stapled along the center
and folded.
Scheduled Print A printing mode that allows you to delay printing a queued job
until a specific date and time.
Sheet insertion A feature where a blank page is printed in between designated
pages of the original document. Insertion Sheets are stapled with
the original document (if stapling is requested). See also Page
Interleaving.
Simplex Printing on only one side of a piece of paper. See also Duplex.
SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol. A widely used network
monitoring and control protocol. Data is passed from SNMP
agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting
activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.) to the
workstation console used to oversee the network. The agents
return information contained in a MIB (Management Information
Base), which is a data structure that defines what is obtainable
from the device and what can be controlled. Originating in the
Unix community, SNMP has become widely used on all major
platforms.
Stack Feed Bypass A paper input unit which can be used to feed single sheets of
special paper (such as envelope, thick paper, or card) for a print
job.
Subnet A section within a network.
