INTRODUCING PRINT PROPERTIES
Print properties are the attributes you set to define the way a print
job is processed. For example, the private print and proof print
properties determine how the copier manages your print job.
The printer drivers properties are located on property pages.
To reset properties, see Restoring Default Property Settings
on
page 91.
Printer Versus Document Print Properties
Some properties are specific to the printing device, while others
apply only to the document being printed. Printer-specific
properties include such options as hardware sharing and port
attributes.
Document properties include orientation, duplex mode,
watermarks, resolution, and stapling. These determine the
document’s appearance when printed.
Setting Print Properties
There are two ways to set properties:
n Through the operating system’s control panel or Printer’s
folder
n Within the application you are printing from
Print properties set in the operating system remain in force until
you change them. By contrast, those properties set within an
application apply to the current document only. When you close
the application, the print properties you set are lost.
Application Properties Take Precedence
Setting properties in the operating system is a good way to use
print properties that your application does not support. The
options you set in the application override any options selected
using the operating system.
For example, most applications allow you to define the page
orientation using a Page Setup or similar dialog box. If you
choose Portrait orientation in Page Setup, and Landscape
orientation through the operating system, don’t be surprised when
the document prints with Portrait orientation.
