InterfaceModes
TheEMACmoduleontheC6455supportsfourinterfacemodes:MediaIndependentInterface(MII),
ReducedMediaIndependentInterface(RMII),GigabitMediaIndependentInterface(GMII),andReduced
GigabitMediaIndependentInterface(RGMII).TheMIIandGMIIinterfacemodesaredefinedintheIEEE
802.3-2002standard.
TheRGMIImodeoftheEMACconformstotheReducedGigabitMediaIndependentInterface(RGMII)
Specification(version2.0).TheRGMIImodeimplementsthesamefunctionalityastheGMIImode,but
withareducednumberofpins.Dataandcontrolinformationistransmittedandreceivedusingbothedges
ofthetransmitandreceiveclocks(TXCandRXC).
Note:TheEMACinternallydelaysthetransmitclock(TXC)withrespecttothetransmitdataandcontrol
pins.Therefore,theEMACconformstotheRGMII-IDoperationoftheRGMIIspecification.However,the
EMACdoesnotdelaythereceiveclock(RXC);thissignalmustbedelayedwithrespecttothereceive
dataandcontrolpinsoutsideoftheDSP.
TheRMIImodeoftheEMACconformstotheRMIISpecification(revision1.2),aswrittenbytheRMII
Consortium.Asthenameimplies,theReducedMediaIndependentInterface(RMII)modeisareduced
pincountversionoftheMIImode.
InterfaceModeSelect
TheEMACusesthesamepinsfortheMII,GMII,andRMIImodes.Standalonepinsareincludedforthe
RGMIImodeduetospecificvoltagerequirements.Onlyonemodecanbeusedatatime.Themodeused
isselectedatdeviceresetbasedontheMACSEL[1:0]configurationpins(formoredetailedinformation,
seeSection3,DeviceConfiguration).Table7-70showswhichmultiplexedpinsareusedintheMII,GMII,
andRMIImodesontheEMAC.Foradetaileddescriptionofthesepinfunctions,seeTable2-3,Terminal
