This procedure covers provisioning of GR-303 voice, P-Phone, and ISDN BRI services. The Access
Navigator provides GR-303 call support by setting up crossconnects only when needed. This enables
efficient switch usage by allowing the Access Navigator to provide call concentration, in which many
subscriber “drop” DS0s can be connected as needed to a smaller number of GR-303 “switch” DS0s.
In a GR-303 system the Central Office switch is the Integrated Digital Terminal (IDT) and the Access
Navigator and Access Banks function as the Remote Digital Terminal (RDT). The switch communicates
with the Access Navigator using an Embedded Operations Channel (EOC) and Timeslot Management
Channel (TMC) in the GR-303 Interface Group. The switch sets up crossconnects in the Access Navigator
between switch DS0s drop DS0s. (The Access Navigator will provide a busy tone for blocked calls.) Each
drop DS0 is identified by a unique Call Reference Value (CRV).
NOTE: To avoid communications problems, the switch DS1s and drop CRVs must be
provisioned identically in the Access Navigator and the GR-303 switch. For example, if the
Access Navigator uses five switch DS1s, the switch must also use five DS1s. If the Access
Navigator uses CRVs 20 to 72, the switch must also use CRVs 20 to 72.
