Analog Interfaces
The Access Bank II family of channel bank products can be equipped with one or two analog voice
cards installed in card slots FX#1 and FX#2. Analog cards include Foreign Exchange Station (FXS),
Foreign Exchange Office (FXO), 4-wire E&M, and Special POTS (SPOTS). Each card provides 12
analog channels for connection to the customer’s PBX, Key Systems, fax machines, modems, and other
analog voice terminations. Analog channels 1 to 12 are located on the card in slot FX#1, and channels
13 to 24 are located on the card in slot FX#2.
The Access Navigator uses a fixed mapping between the T1 DS0s and the analog channels. If no remote
interfaces are used, DS0 channels 1 to 24 will be connected to analog channels 1 to 24. If a DS0 is
connected to a remote interface, the corresponding analog channel will not be used. For example, if DS0
channel 15 is connected to a remote interface, analog channel 15 will not be used.
The Access Navigator currently supports remote provisioning of the following Access Bank II
interfaces:
l FX cards providing up to 24 analog voice terminations (12 per card)
l RS-232 port for data service up to 57.6 Kbps between two Access Bank II’s
l SDSL port for high-speed data service up to 1 Mbps (replaces T1 Drop port)
l T1 Drop port for PBX voice or high-speed data service
l V.35 port for high-speed data service
Crossconnect Features
The Access Bank II contains DS0 crossconnect switches that are remotely controllable. This enables the
Access Navigator to set up connections between the DS1 drop DS0s and the various Access Bank II
voice and data interfaces. Internal crossconnections can also be made between the Access Bank’s T1
Drop port and other remote interfaces, such as the V.35 port.
The operator specifies which DS0s on the DS1 to use for the RS-232, T1 drop, V.35, and other remote
interfaces using special set remote commands. The Access Navigator automatically connects any
remaining voice or GR-303 DS0s to the FX interfaces, which are provisioned using the standard set
ds0 commands. Since the factory default does not define any remote interfaces, DS0 channels 1 to 24
are initially connected to FX channels 1 to 24 (see A in Figure 11-3).
The Access Navigator only allows crossconnects between compatible voice, data, and GR-303 types,
as shown in Table 11-1. Invalid crossconnects in the table are grayed out.
Remote interfaces require two commands for provisioning crossconnects. The add interface
command creates a fractional interface and defines the DS0s it will use. Then the connect remote
command connects the fractional interface to a remote interface port on the Access Bank II, such as the
V.35 interface. This can produce crossconnections similar to example B in Figure 11-3).
To make an internal crossconnection between the T1 Drop and another remote interface, use the add
interface command to create a remote interface type. Then use the connect remote command
to connect the remote T1 Drop interface to another port, such as the FX or V.35.
