EOC Interface
Overview
Overview
The Access Navigator GR-303 complies with Telcordia® (Bellcore) standard GR-303. This specification
describes a Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) system that operates on T1 circuits. GR-303 management uses an
Embedded Operations Channel (EOC) enabling the local switch to provision GR-303 resources in the
Access Navigator. The local switch uses the Timeslot Management Channel (TMC), a dedicated DS0
channel, to set up cross-connects in the Access Navigator on a per-call basis, providing call concentration
and more efficient use of switch and facility resources.
Figure A-1. GR-303 Architecture with the Access Navigator
In the GR-303 network architecture (see Figure 1), the local switch is called the Integrated Digital Terminal
(IDT). The IDT connects to an intelligent Remote Digital Terminal (RDT), such as the Access Navigator.
Between the IDT and RDT, management and voice traffic flow over an Interface Group (IG) comprising
two or more T1s (DS1s). Dedicated DS0s in the IG carry the EOC and TMC. The remaining DS0s carry
voice frequency calls assigned by the switch.
Services defined on the EOC interface allow remote management of GR-303 resources in the Access
Navigator. GR-303 services are modeled by managed objects, which represent physical resources or support
